There is alot of conflicting information on this subject, but I tend to lean toward the cautious side on this one.

If you have a toy breed puppy, any puppy for that matter, but especially the little ones...............and you are taking them in for their last round of shots. Ask the vet to hold the rabies vaccination until you spay or neuter. There is strong belief that the boosters and the rabies at the same time can have a negative effect on the pup. Alot of times it won't, but if it does and it's your pup, waiting is an easy way to help prevent it.

There is a large array of reactions that can occur if they have one. One pup i saw whined and could only spin in circles......................he never did come out of it.................of course it's probably not going to be pinpointed that the vaccines caused it but if you have a healthy pup and you go get it vaccinated and then you have a problem, and especially a severe one, it's a pretty good sign the vaccines caused it. It's not hard to overload the system of a toy breed pup.

So when you go to the vet, of course you want their advice and care, but you also need to determine in instances what is the best thing for your pup, just like you would your children......................they rely on you in the same way.

 It is recommended that you put your pup under once a year to clean it's teeth.

Do they put me under to clean my teeth??????

Obviously the answer is "no"

 Understandably the person cleaning the teeth does not want to be bitten so it is easier to put the dog under. But is it easier on the dog....................I don't think so. I believe that anesthetic at anytime is a risk.

There are alot of products you can buy now that help with teeth cleaning, there are alot of toys you can buy that help promote clean teeth. There are certain ways to feed your pup that can help with their teeth.

It would seem wise to research all the available options before putting your pup to sleep once a year to clean it's teeth.
